This section keeps a record on significant events in OUWAFC history. OUWAFC was founded in about 1985, since the first Varsity Match against the University of Cambridge is known to have been competed in 1986. It then joined forces with the longstanding men's club, OUAFC (which was itself founded in 1872), in about 1998.
In the period since then, the club has become increasingly popular, and expanded to form a 2nd XI, the Furies. This team competed in its first Varsity match against Cambridge's 2nd XI, the Eagles, in 2000, and has been going strong ever since.

Baker appointed as Sabbatical Officer

Former club president Nik Baker has been appointed as the club's first sabbatical
officer. In his gap year between school and university, Nik played as a professional
with Fulham, making several reserve team appearances and in his time as un
undergraduate at Oxford has won 3 "Blues", including a man-of-the-match display
that included a penalty save in Oxford's 1-0 win in the 2005 Varsity Match.
As sabbatical officer, Nik will be responsible for overseeing the smooth running
of the college leagues and cuppers competitions in addition to improving the
links with former members and helping with the senior university sides.
Jon Roycroft, director of Oxford University Sport, said, "The appointment
of the first Football 'sabbatical' at Oxford University is a great step forward
in the development of the sport within the Institution. Football at Oxford
is truly a sleeping giant in terms of participation and profile and should
gain every bit as much profile as Rugby and Rowing. The potential for development,
in terms of excellence, participation levels and general focus is immense
and I look forward to working with Nik in the new academic year as the Club
begin to tackle these challenges."
Baker is said to be delighted to be appointed to the role. Nik will start
work at a time to be agreed over the Summer.
Blues secure Midlands Conferences Title - without even kicking a ball!

The Blues had the good fortune to secure a walkover against Wolverhampton today. But, crucially, this afternoon Loughborough 2nds and Nottingham Trent cancelled each other out yet again with another draw, thereby leaving the Blues 4 points clear at the top of the BUSA Midlands Conference 1A with only one game of the regular season left to play! Since the final game is against closest rivals Nottingham Trent, the Blues are keen to finish the job in style. The title also comes with a place in the Championship and an opportunity for a promotion play-off, so the Blues season is still very much alive!

KOWFI 2006 - Outreach in Kenya

Unity is the front by which we may vanquish AIDS
In the summer of 2006, OUWAFC pioneered an outreach program in the slums of Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, to promote women's football, empowerment and AIDS awareness in Kenya. This was carried out in collaboration with the United States International University, Africa.
Eleven members of OUWAFC, drawn from both Blues and Furies squads, travelled to Nairobi, Kenya in order to instigate the Kenya-Oxford Women's Football Initiative.
A full report on our activities will appear on the Tour page shortly, but many thanks again to all who supported us both in organisation, with publicity and financially. With many coaching sessions and peer education workshops in some of the most deprived slums of sub-Saharan Africa, and the coordination of the largest one-day women's football tournament that Kenya has ever seen, the trip can certainly be deemed to have been a success!
2004-2005
Tour 2004-5
The year culminated with a week-long tour to Rome in June/July. A team composed of both Blues and Furies players flew out to warmer climes to play Res Blu ’92, a local Roman team competing in Serie B. The Italian team ran out worthy winners, but Oxford competed well, especially considering we were unaccustomed to the hot weather conditions the match was played in!
The tour was about much more than playing football, though - as the photos no doubt show! We visited many of the awe-inspiring sights and sampled the delicious Italian cuisine. The Vatican was particularly breathtaking with the view from St Peter’s outstanding. Contrary to popular belief, we didn’t actually meet Pope Benedict, despite apparent photographic evidence suggesting otherwise... The Colosseum was amazing and we were all struck by the sheer number of beautiful buildings found all over Rome.
We were made to feel very welcome, both by the Res Blu ’92 players, and the Italian people we met throughout the week - not least the restaurant staff who helped us celebrate Johno’s ‘birthday’ with free champagne!! We had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Eternal City.
